Troy Ferguson received his undergraduate degree in Business Management from Barry University, Miami Shores, summa cum laude. He earned his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1989, cum laude, where he was a Harvey T. Reid Law Scholar and a member and published author of the University of Miami Law Review.
Following law school, Troy served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Edward B. Davis, former Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Troy is licensed to practice law in Florida and the District of Columbia and is a member of the bars of the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida and the District of Columbia. His practice extends in federal and state courts throughout the United States.
Troy is a former associate and partner of Steel Hector & Davis LLP's commercial litigation department. Founded in 1925, Steel Hector (which subsequently merged with Squire Sanders & Dempsey) was a premiere full-service international law firm, with more than 200 attorneys in 11 offices around the world.
Heeding a call to public service, Troy subsequently served with distinction as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida where he earned the Timothy Evans Award recognizing the District's most outstanding prosecutor. Troy rotated through the Appellate, Major Prosecutions and Violent Crimes sections of the Miami United States Attorney's Office.
Troy previously founded and managed Troy D. Ferguson & Associates, P.A., an insurance defense litigation firm with more than 30 attorneys.
Troy serves as a lector at St. Timothy and St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Churches in South Miami.
Troy is also an accomplished martial artist and is the 5th degree black belt Chief Instructor of Aikido and founder of Aikikai International, Inc. Aikido is a traditional self-defense Japanese martial art popularized by action movie star Steven Seagal.
